Imports address files from other applications. Dynodex can import any text file (Macintosh or DOS) that is tab- or comma-delimited (i.e., the information for each field is separated by tabs or commas).
The "Import Data" Dialog:
• Dynodex Fields: A scrollable list of all Dynodex fields plus "Full Name". Click to select the fields you're going to import from your import file.
• Import Fields: A scrollable list of the fields you have chosen for import. This space remains empty until you select fields from the "Dynodex Fields" list on the left and click "Add". IMPORTANT: These fields should be listed in the order that the data is stored in your import file. For example, if you are importing a FileMaker address list that is set up with Business name first, then Last name, then First name, the "Import Fields" list should show "1 Business", "2 Last Name","3 First Name", etc.
• Arrows: Click on the up or down arrow, as needed, to change the order of import of selected fields (indicated by the numbers preceding each field name). When you change the import order for a field, all other prefix numbers automatically adjust to reflect the new order.
• Add: Click on the "Add" button to add the field(s) you have selected from the "Dynodex Fields" list to the "Import Fields" list.
• Help: Opens the Dynodex Help file where the topic "Import" is preselected for you. Clicking the Help button stops the export process and you must select "Import" from the File menu to begin the process again.
• Import: Initiates the import process. "Import" is not enabled until "Import Fields" have been selected.
• Select All: Selects every field (except "Full Name") from the "Dynodex Fields" list.
• Remove: Removes a selected field from the "Import Fields" list. Prefix numbers automatically adjust when fields are removed. You may also select a field and type the delete key to remove a field from the list.
• Add to Menu: Adds the current import settings to the "Frequent Imports" pop-up list. Limit is 15.
• Frequent Imports: Displays a list of the frequent import settings you have saved for quick access. This allows you to quickly import certain data according to import settings you frequently use. Limit is 128. This listing is shared by both the Import and Export dialogs.
• Delimit by: Prepares Dynodex to import either a tab-delimited (separated by tabs) or a comma-delimited (separated by commas) text file, depending on what format your import file is in.
• Two Address Fields: If your import file has two separate address fields, this will import them as a single, two-line address in the Dynodex "Address" field.
• Full Name: If your import file has one "First Name+Last Name" text string, choose "Full Name" to break it into two separate fields: "First Name" and "Last Name".
